Over the years of doing camera shootouts, I’ve become accustomed to the “look” of certain brands: Samsung’s historic saturation, Apple’s yellow tint, Google’s reserved color palette, there’s quite a list in the back of my mind. However, that’s been turned on its head recently, with brands constantly tweaking their color science to land the perfect picture. The increasing use of scene detection and object segmentation has made this all the more dependent on exactly what you’re shooting.

My first set of samples establishes that there’s no longer necessarily a clear and unmistakable look to each brand. If anything, their pictures are surprisingly close and consistent across the range of color palettes I snapped. There are obviously slight variations, but nothing approaches an obvious skew or glaring issue. These brands have really narrowed down what looks “just right” over the years

• Software:

  The Pixel 9 series will offer a stock Android experience with Google's latest features and timely updates. Samsung will provide One UI, known for its customization options and a wide array of features. OnePlus will likely offer OxygenOS with a focus on speed and a clean user interface.
• Other Features:

  Expect features like ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensors, stereo speakers, fast charging, and advanced connectivity options (Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4/5.5, etc.) across all three lineups

• Google Pixel 9 Series:

  Expected to excel in camera quality, especially computational photography, and seamless integration with Google's ecosystem. They may also offer unique AI features and a clean Android experience. 

Considerations:

• Camera:

  Google Pixel phones are generally known for their excellent camera performance, while Samsung phones offer versatile camera systems with multiple lenses. OnePlus cameras have also improved significantly in recent years. 

• Battery Life:

  All three brands have made strides in battery life, but some users report that Pixel phones offer excellent standby battery life. 

• Price:

  OnePlus phones are often positioned as offering flagship-level features at a more competitive price point, while Samsung phones are generally considered premium devices with a higher price tag.
