A small plane crashed at London Southend Airport on Sunday. The airport, located about 72 kilometers east of London, confirmed on social media that there had been a "serious incident" involving a general aviation aircraft.
Essex Police said they were alerted just before 4 pm local time and described it as a "serious incident." They added, as cited by the news agency Associated Press, "We are working with all emergency services at the scene now and that work will be ongoing for several hours."

The plane involved in the crash was operated by Zeusch Aviation in the Netherlands. It had flown from Athens, Greece, to Pula, Croatia, on Sunday before heading to Southend. It was due to return to Lelystad, Netherlands, on Sunday evening, as per an AP report.
Zeusch Aviation confirmed its SUZ1 flight had been involved in an accident and said the company was supporting the investigation. “Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected," its statement said.

"We remain on the scene of a serious incident at Southend Airport," Reuters quoted the local Essex Police as saying, adding that they were alerted just before 4 p.m. to reports of a collision involving a 12-metre plane.
In a statement on social media, the airport confirmed a “serious incident” involving what it termed a general aviation aircraft.
It later said that all flights to and from the airport have been cancelled until further notice, while police, emergency services and air investigators assess the incident.
British media said it was a medical transport jet equipped with medical systems for transporting patients, specifically a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air heading to the Netherlands.
Essex Police said it was alerted just before 4 p.m. local time to the “serious incident” at the relatively small airport, which is around 45 miles (72 kilometers) east of the capital.
“We are working with all emergency services at the scene now and that work will be ongoing for several hours,” Essex Police said.
The local member of Parliament, David Burton-Sampson, urged people to stay away and let the emergency services do their work.
“My thoughts are with everyone involved,” he said.
