Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim Wildfire

A devastating wildfire, known as the Bravo Dragon Fire, swept through the Grand Canyon's North Rim on July 13, 2025, destroying the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and dozens of other structures. The lodge, built in 1937, was the only in-park accommodation on the North Rim.

Cause of the Fire
The Bravo Dragon Fire was sparked by a lightning strike on July 4, 2025. Hot temperatures, low humidity, and strong wind gusts fueled the fire's rapid spread, overwhelming suppression efforts.

Damage and Evacuations
The wildfire consumed the Grand Canyon Lodge, visitor center, gas station, wastewater treatment plant, and several employee housing units. Park Superintendent Ed Keable confirmed that 50 to 80 structures were lost in the blaze. Visitors and staff were evacuated last Thursday as the fire threat grew.

Current Status
The North Rim remains closed to visitors until further notice, with two active wildfires in the area: the Bravo Dragon Fire and the White Sage Fire. Firefighters continue to work on suppressing the fires.

Impact on the Park
The destruction of the Grand Canyon Lodge marks a significant loss for the park community and visitors. The lodge was a cherished site and the only lodging available within the park's North Rim.
